*** Meeting of 11 January 2011 ***

Prior to the meeting Auxiliary Commander Sonia Hayes announced the auxiliary would have a yard sale Friday & Saturday, February 4 & 5 at the chapter.

The meeting was called to order by Commander Richard Floyd at 1400.

There were 19 members present.

Proper opening ceremonies were held.

Roll call of officers - all present.

The Adjutant read the minutes of the 14 December 2010 meeting. The minutes were accepted as read.

Treasurer Paul Curry presented the treasurers report for this period. The report was accepted as read.

Chaplain John Seaman reported that three members passed away since our last meeting.
They were:
Calvin Merkle age 85 of Floral City on 31 Dec. 2010
R.G. Holden age 98 of Floral City on 2 Jan. 2011
Frank Zizza age 86 of Beverly Hills on 2 Jan. 2011

On the sick list Joe Stephens reported that Harry Hudson was still recovering in Gainesville.

Membership Chairman Archie Gooding reported one new member, Lloyd Kurrash transferred from Chapter 96.
Our 344 zip code membership is 387.

Under correspondence, the Adjutant reported the following:
A. DAV Dec. Membership Bulletin & DAV Dec. News Service Bulletin.

Under old business, the Adjutant brought up the issue of purchasing a new DAV flag. The Commander said that Carol Ziemandorph had made specialty flags for other organizations. He will look into salvaging parts of the old flag, namely the DAV insignia to create a new flag with her. Archie Gooding recommended tabeling the purchase until we have pricing info.

Under new business, the Adjutant recommended establishing a $1,000.00 scholarship for 2011 with a March announcement time. He also requested Rolling Thunder member Archie Gooding to see if that organization will match funds for an additional scholarship as they have done in the past. Our portion of the scholarship was approved by the members.

The Adjutant made a motion to present a plaque to the Golden Corral for their participation in events during Veterans Appreciation Week activities. The motion was approved.

The Commander announced that we now have five organizations utilizing our building for meetings. They are: TOPS, MCL, Art Group, Fleet Reserve & CCVC. The Civil Air Patrol is also contemplating using our facilities.

The Commander reminded members that the chapter is open every Tuesday morning from 0900 to 1100 for business as well as a social gathering.
Most of the chapter officers are here and many items of interest are discussed.
Joe McClister, our new Service Officer is there to answer any questions on claims.
Neville Anderson made a motion to set aside 20% of our fund raising money to the van fund. This excludes the first $500.00 raised on sales of our commemorative pins. The motion was passed by the members.
The Commander reminded members that we have framed art that we would like to post in the chapter building and requested members assist in the project on Tuesday 18 January in the AM.
Gary Williamson of the the Civil Air Patrol presented a certificate of appreciation to the chapter for our participation in the Wreaths Across America program.

The Commander stated that the scholarship program application and rules were being revised at this time by the scholarship committee and will be presented prior to our 2011 scholarship announcement.

Being no other business, proper closing ceremonies were held and the meeting was adjourned at 1505.
